2nd passports bring a multitude of freedom that people might not realise. They are easily available but your will have to pay for one unless you have another nationality in your immediate family that you can use for this purpose.
Here is a list of the benefits that having a 2nd passport can afford you:
1) Ease of travel - depending where your original passport is from, having a 2nd passport can really open up your world. Certain passports are not popular in many countries, with one of the worst ones to have allowing travel to only 12 countries without needing a visa. The easiest passports to have are those from the US, Finland and Denmark which according to a study by Henley & Partners can take you to 130 countries without needing a visa. The passports available will allow you access to over 100 countries without a visa.
2) Passports belong to the government of the country where they were issued. They do not belong to the person they are issued to. That being the case, it is possible that the government can take their property back if you owe them tax or even if they just decide to, they can invalidate your passport. This would render you unable to travel. If you have 2 passports.. then you will still have a passport to your name.
3) Many people acquire another passport to enable them to run their financial affairs privately.
4) Under certain circumstances it may well save money to have another passport when importing goods such as cars or business equipment.
5) Having a passport can provide you privacy, freedom and you are not being 'controlled' by your government in terms of when you are allowed to travel and to where.
There are many reasons to take a 2nd passport, and these are just a few ideas.
