Places That Don't Exist: Trans-Dniester Part 4of4

Holidays in the Danger Zone: Places That Don't Exist -------- Author Simon Reeve undertakes a thrilling journey through the most obscure countries in the world -- Places That Don't Exist. -------- There are almost 200 official countries in the world, but there are dozens more breakaway states which are determined to be separate and independent. The breakaway states have their own rulers, parliaments or warlords, and are home to millions of people, but they're not officially recognised as proper countries by the rest of the world. Several have their own armies and police forces, and issue passports and even postage stamps which the rest of the world ignores. All of the breakaway states have declared independence after violent struggles with a neighbouring state. Some now survive peacefully, but others are a magnet for terrorists and weapons smuggling, and have armies ready for a fight. All could be at the centre of future wars which threaten their regions and the wider world. In a world of easy adventure tourism, Simon visits breakaway states & unrecognized nations which don't usually feature on the tourist trail: Somaliland, Transniestria, South Ossetia, Taiwan, Abkhazia, Ajaria and Nagorno-Karabkh. -------- In this series, Simon Reeve is taught to fish by the President of Moldova, becomes an unofficial Somali diplomat, and finds himself crammed into a lift with the President of Georgia. He visits a little-known country stuck in a Soviet-era time-warp, and a mountainous ...

Mossad Operation in Dubai FULL VIDEO *HQ* - Part 1/3

Mahmoud Abdel Rauf al-Mabhouh (Arabic: محمود عبد الرؤوف المبحوح; February 14, 1960[1] January 19, 2010[2]) was a senior Hamas military commander and one of the founders of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades. Al-Mabhouh was assassinated in the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel in Dubai on January 19, 2010, having arrived in the country earlier that day from Syria. It is suspected by Dubai police that he was murdered in his hotel room, with accounts of the cause of death ranging from suffocation to electrocution. A controversy over the murder has arisen over evidence indicating that his death was possibly an Israeli government-sanctioned assassination.[3] The Sunday Times reports that al-Mabhouh was tracked since January 19, 2010, on his 10:05 am departure from Damascus, Syria to Dubai on Emirates Flight 912.[10] While it states that he traveled under a false passport,[10] Hamas and Dubai officials maintain that al-Mabhouh entered the country under his own identity[11] at 3:15 pm[2] Normally al-Mabhouh would have been protected by bodyguards, but their arrival was delayed because the plane was full.[12] Al-Mabhouh took a taxi to the Al Bustan Rotana hotel and settled into room 230.[13] He had asked for a room with no balcony and sealed windows, so no one could enter other than through the door. He showered, changed, left documents in the safe, and then exited the hotel between 4:30 and 5 pm, roughly an hour having passed since first checking in.[8] What he did during the next three to ...

What You Need to Know About Passport Renewal Forms

Planning ahead and printing your passport renewal forms from the online website will save you from having to fill out forms by hand. Remember that if you are planning to visit and Application Agency do not sign these forms at home.

Standard Renewal: A renewal of your passport is required every ten years if you received your first passport after you turned 16. Children however must have their passports renewed every five years regardless of what age they were when they received their first passport. If you have changed your name through divorce decree, marriage or legal name change and you report this change within the first year there is no charge for this service. Renewal by mail is available for those who received their first passport after the age of 16 or who are reporting a legal name change.

Name Changes: When renewing your passport because of a name change you will need to include your divorce decree or your marriage certificate. People who have had their name legally changed must include those documents as well.

Visas: When you submit your renewal application you can also request additional visas. Forms are available online for those who wish to make use of this service. Blank visa sheets are sometimes required by foreign countries and you may request them when renewing your passport.

What is Required: Requirements for passport renewal are the same as applying for your first passport. Passport photos need to be taken and included. Two identical two inch by two inch photographs of your face and shoulders, identification documents such as your driver's license, social security card, your certified birth certificate or your military ID if you're a solder will need to be seen or sent with your application form.

Errors: Misspelled names are the most common errors on passports. Sometimes your birth date is wrong or numbers have been transposed. When your passport arrives, check it carefully and report these mistakes to your Application Agency. You will be instructed on how to return the passport to have these errors corrected.

Emergency Situations: Emergencies sometimes happen. If you find that your passport has expired or will expire soon contact the Contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778 (TYY/TDD 1-888-847-2778) and they will help you through the emergency passport process.

Renewal Denied: No one wants to receive a notice telling them that their passport renewal application has been denied. It is easier to prevent this from happening than to correct it once it has. Contact the Application Agency if you have had a recent criminal conviction. If you owe back child support or taxes you should take care of these issues before you apply for a renewal of your passport. Both of these issues will result in your application being denied. It takes months to correct these problems once you have submitted your application.

Stay on top of the details and print you passport renewal forms online.

However, if you have known the traveling tips with a family, including with children, you can create unforgettable memory and experiences. If you want to do traveling with your children, the following are several tips for you.

Before you leave your home, let your children pack their own luggage. You can decide what clothes they should bring, but let them choose their own favorite clothes. Also, do not forget to pack their special toys, sweets, bubble gums, small towels, tissue papers, books, papers, and seal plastic bags.

In flight, give your children some seats that fulfill the new security standard. Even, The Federal Aviation Administration (USA) recommends children that have weight less than 40 pounds to sit in special seats for children or baby. The best seat for them in a flight is the first rear of economic class or you can seat them between two adults. Also, do not let them walk alone without your control. Thus, you should stay wake up or often take a walk with them.

To keep your children sitting close to you, you can order the seats before. If you cannot do that, you can ask air crew in airport. So, he or she can ask another passenger to change of his or her seat.

Where to Go When Traveling at Home

It was hard to find a list online of Top ten places to go as there are so many categories, top ten outdoor locations, top ten National Parks, Cities, Places of Interest, beaches, colleges, sports, amusement parks, adventure, shopping, skiing, history and culture, casinos, the list is endless before we even begin. I did find a top ten list of States to visit, starting with number one, of course, Hawaii, followed by Las Vegas, Florida, California, Texas, Georgia, Virginia, New York, North Carolina and number ten Colorado. My personal list would be much different with Las Vegas not even making it. I love a little outdoor beauty followed by something historical, cultural or artsy. New York and California would be the top two with Boston, Chicago following directly behind. I love to visit big cities and feel the energy that is contained there. I love big art museums; the J. Paul Getty, Huntington Library in California, The Met in New York, the Institute of Art in Chicago with over 300,000 pieces of art and the National Gallery in Washington D.C. has a stunning collection also. Add to that that they are all in fabulous cities with fantastic restaurants, city live, street entertainment, beautiful parks and lovely architecture and that makes for fun travel.

When Planning a vacation don't forget the National Parks with Zions, Bryce and Canyon lands in Utah, The Grand Canyon in Arizona, Yellowstone, The Redwood Forest and Everglades just to name a few. This land is amazing, beautiful and diverse, there really is "No place like home" for fun, romantic of scenic travel and you never have to leave US borders.

Application Form and Guidelines For a United States Passport

Everyone knows that, despite the rise of the internet, the U.S. government runs on paperwork, with some kind of designated form for every imaginable document.

The passport application process is no different.  Anyone who needs a passport for the first time will find that the application form is only part of the process for getting a passport

The paperwork you'll need for your first passport is called a DS-11: "Application for U.S. Passport" but I'm getting ahead of myself. Before diving in to the form, let's discuss a little background on the whole passport thing. What exactly is a passport and why do you need one?

Believe it or not, references to the first known passport date back to the Hebrew Bible, where Nehemiah needed something official from King Artaxerxes of Persia which would verify his identity when traveling through the various lands on his way to Judea. The passport became more of what we know today when King Henry V of England came up with a standard for identification for his subjects. The passport was born and has evolved to what we use today.

This being said, you can see that you're going to need something that verifies your citizenship and identify when you apply for a passport for the first time. Start looking for your original Birth Certificate. If you gained citizenship in other ways, such as through naturalization, locate those documents. You'll be mailing the original along with your application but it will be returned with your passport

You'll find the DS-11 form at any passport office, such as the U.S. Post Office, library or other city, state or municipal government office. Or, make it easy on yourself and download it from the web site of the U.S. Department of State. Be sure to only use black ink when filling it in and don't sign it as you'll have to do that in the presence of the passport official when you turn it in.

Also don't forget to have 2 passport photos taken which will go along with your application. Most post offices can take care of this for you, which makes it easy and one less place to visit. Pick up a strong and durable mailing envelope while you're there so nothing gets damaged in transit.

You cannot pay passport fees with a credit card, but checks or money orders are accepted. The State Department asks $75.00 for the passport book and another $25.00 for the processing costs. Photos run around $10.00 but ask to see if the price has gone up. Mailing your application by certified mail, or any other traceable means, is highly recommended. You'll get your passport in approximately 3 or 4 weeks.

This has been a general outline of what's involved in getting a passport for the first time, but there's more to know that may fit your unique situation. Check out the U.S. Department of State web site for lots of information. Soon you'll be the expert on applying for a passport and will be able to explain the process to your friends and family.

Mallorca Yacht Charter

The islands have been inhabited since prehistoric times, around 5000 BC, and there are many Cyclopean remains. These show the communities constructed dwellings of stone. There is evidence of primitive agriculture including the keeping of domesticated animals. Jewellery, pottery and tools appear to have been manufactured. Later Phoenician traders frequently visited them. In 654 BC the Carthaginians founded what is today Ibiza city. Roman occupation followed and the Visigoths in turn evicted them. The Moors invaded the islands during the 8th century and there is still evidence of their 300 year occupation to be found in the islands architecture and the customs of the islanders themselves. Christians reconquered the islands during the 13th century. Mallorca falling first in 1229, followed by Ibiza six years later.

Minorca was the last to fall in 1287. Initially the islands flourished as Catalan colonies but famines and raids by pirates encouraged by isolation from the mainland saw the Balearic Islands decline. The Bourbons following the conclusion of the Spanish War of Succession in 1715 occupied Mallorca and Ibiza. Minorca however was ceded to the British under the treaty of Utrecht along with Gibraltar on the Spanish mainland. British rule over Minorca continued until 1802. In the Spanish Civil War, 1936-39, Mallorca and Ibiza were soon under the control of Franco's forces enabling the Italian fleet to use Mallorca as it's base and offer support to the insurgents. Minorca remained Loyalist until 1939. The 1950's saw the first charter flights land in the islands bringing the tourists that have in turn bought prosperity to the islands and their peoples involved in this lucrative trade. After tourism agriculture and fishing make significant contributions to the economy of the islands. Fruit, olive oil, wine, majolica ware and silver filigree are exported in quantity.

This is a popular yacht charter destination and most people will find what they are looking for, be it motor or sail, monohull or catamaran, bareboat charter, skippered or crewed yachts.

The Balearic Islands yacht charter season generally runs from April to the end of October. July and August are the hottest and tends to have lighter winds; it is also the most expensive time to charter a yacht. April-May and September-October have a lot of plus points, the temperatures are more comfortable, those sailing are likely to getter better winds, it is not as expensive and while ashore you will avoid crowds of July and August.

Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands and covers over 3,500 sq. km. Prior to 1276 Mallorca's history was the same as the other islands. But then the kingdom of Mallorca was formed and included the island along with some areas of both mainland Spain and France. Perpignan, in Roussillon, France was the capital of the kingdom. It was returned to the crown of Aragon in 1343 and flourished until the discovery of the Americas and the subsequent change in major trade routes. The island is known for its stalagmite caves and architectural treasures and prehistoric monuments. A further landmark is the abandoned old monastery where both Chopin and George Sand lived. Es Pla, a large fertile plain, where cereals, flax, grapes, and olives are grown, dominates the interior. Pigs and sheep are raised. There is also limited mining of copper and lead and quarrying of marble.

In addition to numerous anchorages Mallorca has a lot of marinas, including; Puerto de Palma de Mallorca, Puerto de Cala Nova, Puerto Portals Marina, Puerto Sol de Mallorca, El Toro Marina, Marina de Santa Ponsa, Marina Andraitx, Marina San Telmo, Puerto de Soller, Pollensa Marina, Bonaire Marina, Alcudia Marina, C'an Picafort Marina, Serra Nova Marina, Puerto Cala Ratjada, Puerto de Cala Bona, Porto Cristo Marina, Cala d'Or Marina, Porto Petro Marina, Campos Marina, Rapita Marina, Puerto de s'Estanyol, Arenal Marina, San Antonio de la Playa Marina, Puerto de Cala Gamba, Puerto de Cala Portixol. More detailed information on these marinas can be found in the Balearic Islands section of our cruising guide.

Palma de Mallorca, on the south coast and renowned for it's spectacular sunsets, is the capital city. La Seu is the city's enormous cathedral. Built on the site of a former mosque, construction commenced in 1230. It was completed some 370 years later in 1600. Anybody, today, who has tried to hurry a Spanish builder will be undismayed at what to others must look like an eternity in time. The city also has museums, Renaissance mansions a plenty in the old town and many attractive churches.

Puerto de Palma de Mallorca is an enormous marina set in the capital. In addition to the marina facilities commercial shipping, fishing boats, ferries and the military, uses the port. All this commercial traffic has right of way. Entry and shelter are excellent in all conditions. The marina gets very crowded in the summer months and berths are extremely difficult to obtain. There is a useful anchorage in a bay to the east of the port.

Puerto de Cala Nova is medium sized purpose built marina. The marina is somewhat overshadowed by the surrounding high rise buildings but on the whole is pleasant. Entrance is easy and shelter good in all but strong E-SE winds when some swell may be experienced. There are several small beaches nearby but these get very crowded in the summer months. Palma de Mallorca is only a short distance away.

The Serra de Tramuntana Mountains, rising to nearly 1500m, dominate the northwest of the island. The combination of a rugged, rocky coastline, pine forests, olive groves and small, charming villages, Deia in particular, perched high above the Mediterranean, make this part of the island quite beautiful.

Two bays dominate the north east coast, the Bahia de Pollenca and the Bahia d'Alcudia. An almost continuous string of sandy bays and beaches make up the eastern coast and unsurprisingly this area has seen intense development.

Pollensa Marina is set at the head of a beautiful wide bay. The water is on the shallow side and attention must be paid to the depth when approaching and entering the marina. Winds from the NE - SE can make entry difficult and sometimes dangerous. The old town of Pollensa is worth a visit. The area is good walking country with a 1 mile stroll N to Cala Vincente worthwhile.

Alcudia Marina is situated in a larger harbour, which is used by commercial and fishing craft. The marina is easy to approach and enter but shelter is limited with E - SE winds. There is considerable tourist development and the whole area is very crowded during the summer. There is a Roman theatre, St Martin's cave and a castle and museum, which may be of interest.

The southern coast, by contrast, is in the main rocky cliffs plunging into the Mediterranean. Port d'Andratx, on the south west coast, is a small attractive town built on low hills all around a narrow bay. Majorca has a magnificent coastline consisting of rocky outcrops intermingled with many small coves that offer excellent sandy beaches.

Andraitx harbour serves both as marina and is home to the local fishing fleet. The surroundings are most attractive as is the local village. Although the housing developments have taken away some of its original charm. Entrance is easy and protection good. Yachts can though expect some gusts from the high surrounding hills and strong winds from the S - SW can produce swell.

The semi-arid island of Sa Dragonera is part of a chain of islands off the southern coast of Mallorca, known for its abundance of wildlife and high, stunning cliffs. The wildlife includes peregrine falcons, migratory birds, and seabirds. Indigenous lizards and bats are also found on the island and timid mular dolphins can sometimes be seen around the coast. Head for the eastern shore and the natural harbour of Cala Lled. There is an excellent visitor's centre here and some great walking trails that take in historical sights as well as some superb views and wildlife spotting.

Cabrera, an important bird sanctuary, also lies of the south coast of Mallorca. Yachts wishing to visit need to apply for a permit by sending copies of their sailing license and passport(s) to the base three weeks before arrival. Puerto de Cabrera, on the northwest coast, has 50 laid moorings and yachts must use these overnight. It is possible to anchor in S'Illa des Fonoll bay on the east coast during the day. These restrictions are to protect the algae plant, which makes a major contribution to the food chain of this island.

Ibiza, covering 572 sq. km, is the third largest of the islands. The capital is Ibiza city, renowned for it's extravagant nightlife. This attracts large numbers of tourists; over one million now visit every year. Some of Spain's most famous discos are to be found hear along with plethora of bars, cafes and restaurants. The Dalt Vila, a souk-like walled city, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are plenty of beaches but in the summer months these get very crowded. Cala Mastella on the east coat and Beniras on the west are two of the best. Santa Eulalia is an attractive village and has three great beaches; Playas de Santa Eulalia, Cala Blanca, and Es Canar. San Juan also boasts good beaches such as Cala de Sant Vincent, Cala Portinaitx, and Cala Xarraca and the remains of a Carthaginian temple in the cave of Cueva des Cuieram. The locals of San Jos not only have a host of beaches but also one of the most beautiful churches on the island. The north of the island is popular with cyclists and hikers. Inland the landscape is rocky and pine trees grow in abundance. Fishing and salt works contribute to the economy with some subsistence farming, aided by irrigation. Little rain falls and the predominant crops are almonds, figs and olives.

In addition to some lovely anchorages there are several marinas on Ibiza; Marina Botafoch, Puerto Ibiza la Nueva, Puerto San Antonio-Abad, Puerto Santa Eulalia. More information on these marinas can be found in the Balearic Islands section of our cruising guide.

Formentera is the smallest of the Balearic Islands (just 12 miles top to tip) located just off the south coast of Ibiza. Compared to the other islands Formentera is relatively underdeveloped with good beaches with powder white sand and clear blue waters. There are plenty of opportunities for hiking and walking.

Puerto de Sabina, the island's harbour, gets very crowded in the summer and charges are very high. More information on this harbour can be found in the Balearic Islands section of our cruising guide. There are good beaches to the NE of the marina. San Fransisco Javier is worth a visit.

Covering 702 km, the island of Minorca is the second largest of the Balearic Islands. In 1708 during War of the Spanish Succession the British occupied it. France seized it during the Seven Years War but in 1763 the Treaty of Paris returned it to British rule. In 1782, during the American Revolution, the French allied with Spain seized the island but sixteen years later the British returned once again. The final chapter came in 1802 when the Peace of Amiens awarded Minorca to Spain. But even today there is still strong evidence of British occupation. Architecture has a distinctive Georgian feel even down to the sash windows. Today Port Mahon, lying at on the east coast, is the capital and the island's major port. The harbour is both deep and sheltered and overlooked by the town built on the cliffs at the southern end.

British influence can be seen at both Fort Marlborough and Collingwood House, named after the Admiral who served alongside Nelson. If any further evidence of the British past is required a visit to the Xoriguer Gin Distillery should provide it. In contrast to the other two main islands Minorca remains seemingly tranquil. There is little intensive development and it is still possible, even in the middle of summer, to find beaches almost deserted. Ciutadella, on the western side of the island, is a charming little town boasting fine mansions. There is much evidence of Minorca's prehistoric past and a great number of megalithic monuments exist. There are many sites and they fall into three different time periods. The Pre-Talayotic Period or Cave Era from 2000 - 1300BC, the Talayotic Period or Bronze age, 1300 - 800BC and the Post Talayotic Period or Iron Age, 800 - 100BC. The centre is hilly but the island as a whole in mainly lowland. Despite the fact Minorca's rainfall is greater than the other islands irrigation is still required. Cereals, flax, wine and olive oil are the main agricultural products. There is a little light industry. Lobster fishing also contributes to the economy.

Minorca has some lovely anchorages and there are marinas at Puerto de Mahon, Puerto de Ciudadela, Puerto de Fornells, Puerto de Cala de Addaya. More information on these marinas can be found in the Balearic Islands section of our cruising guide.

Want to Know How to Renew Your Expired Passport? Find Out Here

If your passport has expired, then you'll naturally need to have it renewed. Otherwise, you won't be able to use it to travel to foreign destinations where US passports are required. You have several options when renewing your passport: sending it by mail, send it in person, or visit your nearest US Embassy or Consulate. What option is available to you depends on where you're based, and if you are able to meet the requirements for renewing passports. First, let's talk about renewing your passport by mail.

Renewing your passport by mail is what you need if you don't have the time to visit your local passport office. Aside from that, it also makes it convenient to have your passport renewed instead of submitting the documents yourself. You just have to send the requirements by mail, and wait for it to be processed. That's all you need to do.

However, not everyone can renew their passports by mail. First of all, you need to meet the requirements set for you to do this. Here's your checklist on whether you can apply for a passport by mail: your passport should be in a good condition, it was issued when you were at least 16 years old, and it was issued no more than 15 years ago. Also, the passport must contain your legal name. Otherwise, you should at least be able to legally document your name change.

In case your passport has been damaged, or you do not meet the other requirements mentioned above, then you will have to submit your passport renewal application in person. Don't worry though, if you have to do this. It's just an extra measure to ensure that the passport is issued to the right person.

Also keep in mind that the passport renewal by mail is open to those in the US and citizens based in Canada. If these two conditions apply to you, then just download Form DS-82 at the US Department of State's website. Once you've filled it out, mail it to the address indicated in the form with the other requirements.

What if you are not based in the US or in Canada right now? Then you will have to go the nearest US Embassy or Consulate to have your passport renewed. They will take care of the renewal of your expired passport. Make sure to keep this in mind, especially if you often travel outside of the US and Canada.

Make sure you send your passport application by mail using a traceable method of delivery. That's so you can keep track of your application until it arrives at the passport office, and get a confirmation when it does. In addition to that, place all of your documents in a secure envelope to protect it from the elements while it is being transported.

Spaceship Excellent - Episode 10: Oklahoma City

spaceshipexcellent.com After washing the tragic imagery images of fallen aliens from their minds, the spacemen continued their quest into Oklahoma City. In this advanced city of industry, they discovered their most promising lead yet... a scientific center of air and space technology. Boffo, Spacemen! They put on their thinking caps and soaked up information like space sponges... cap-sules, fighter-jets, flight-simulators, space shuttles. After hours devouring data, our heros departed. At last, they felt close to a solution for the vessel to return them to their home planet. Now, if they only had a plan to fuel it! The spacemen descended on the city and investigated fueling options Traveling river boats, American pick-up trucks, animal-drawn city carriages... animal drawn city carriages? The horse buggy intrigued the Spacemen, and the captain boarded it to query the cowboy commanding the quadraped. Still fascinated by the prospect of harnessing animals for power, the spacemen learned of a local watering hole called the "cross-eyed moose", where "steel horses" congregate in sizable packs to feed. The spacemen attempted to communicate with the droves of steel-horse riders through the language of music. Umph! Metal certainly can be heavy. What kinds of capers will the Spacemen spin into next? Will they join 4-H and become champeen e-questrians? Will they wear capes and become capers? Will they fall prey to metal-mania and go totally evil? Will they discover a man with more ...

Canadian Passports - Be In The "Know" Or Prepared To Be Frustrated

If you are planning to apply for a Canadian passport, you need to know the application procedures and the time required to get a passport in order to get it before your upcoming trip. With heightened international security passports are required for travel into territories that once only required valid I.D.

While in-person applications are usually processed in two weeks (this excludes delivery delay), your applications sent via mail or through a receiving agent (Canada Post or Services Canada) may take up to ten weeks. While this is best case scenario, passport application requests are at an all time high and you need to ask your local issuing office what the turnaround time is.

For applications sent through mail from the U.S. will require about twelve weeks to process them. Sometimes, there may be a delay in getting your passport due to the rapidly growing volume of passport applications that the passport office receives each day.

It is obvious from the time frame mentioned above that you wouldn't want a further delay in getting your Canadian passport, which you may badly require to go on a holiday or a business trip.

Use the checklist listed below to rule out the possibility of making common errors that lead to delay in getting your Canadian passport:

Have you sent your application well in advance before your scheduled trip?

It's your responsibility to ensure that you have filled the Canadian passport application form correctly. Incomplete or incorrect forms can be rejected and ruin your chances of going abroad.

If you are applying for a new passport because you lost your old one or it was stolen, you need to submit a Statutory Declaration form (PPT 203) along with your application. You can download this form from the website http://www.passportcanada.gc.ca and avoid delay in processing your application.

Have you filled in the date of travel box on the application form? Since this filed cannot be left blank, you must either enter your date of travel or mark it as "unknown".

Before submitting your form, make sure that your personal and citizenship information has been filled. Often, people forget to fill up important details such as height, weight, hair color, and phone number(s).

When applying for your Canadian passport, you need to attach a legal document to prove your Canadian citizenship. While enclosing documents, please be aware that you cannot send a photocopy of the documents.

One reason why passport application may not be accepted is that the photos furnished are not identical. Make sure that you get your photos from commercial photographers who understand the specific requirements. Before submitting the photographs, make sure that your guarantor signs the back of one photo. Your passport photo must be clear and must show a neutral facial expression.

Another important document to be enclosed with your application form is the identification document. You need to either send an original copy of your Identification documents or send clear and legible photocopies (of both the sides) of the documents. If you are planning to send photocopies, your guarantor must certify them. It is important that the name on the identification documents matches the name you have mentioned in your passport application form.

You need to ensure that your guarantor has completed the section 2 (Declaration of Guarantor) of the application form before you submit your passport application.

And last but not the least, don't forget to sign the Canadian passport application form and enclose the fees with your Canadian passport application form.

Crossing the Berlin bound on the S-Bahn (late '80s)

This was one of the standard East/West Berlin crossings: the S-Bahn Friedrichstrasse station. The station was in East Berlin and was itself divided in half - one part being the end station of an eastern line, the other part being the end station of a line going to West Berlin. To walk from the "eastern" to the "western" part of the station you had to go through the passport and customs controls, obviously. On the "western" part of the station one could purchase things like cigarettes and alcohol duty-free (for western marks) so it was not uncommon to see drunks from West Berlin popping in at the Friedrichstrasse station buying some liquor and going back West (no control). That sort of folklore went way beyond James Bond, IMHO :-) This clip begins at Friedrichstrasse as we've just hopped on a westbound S-Bahn. Soon after the train takes off, we are inside the wall, you can see the no man's land as the tracks run parallel to it for a while. The actual border is seen just before pulling into the first station in the West (Lehrter Stadtbahnhof) - it's the boundary between the water and the land in the canal we cross over. Another train is leaving back to Friedrichstrasse (carrying those drunks and cigarette smugglers perhaps?) and we walk closer to the Reichstag from where one can see the train tracks we've just ridden along. Another S-Bahns go both ways plus a random long distance train leaving East Berlin. NOTE: I added a reverse angle view in www.youtube.com

8 Tips For Traveling Abroad

1. Pack light- Nothing is worse then having to lug your stuff all over the country. I've seen people traveling with a giant back pack on their back, a smaller one in front, a fanny pack, and dragging a suit case. Trust me. You DO NOT need to bring that much on your trip. I use to pack heavy and realized that I didn't use half the stuff or could have easily bought it anywhere. Ask yourself, Do I really need this?

2.Make sure you documents are in order- Your documents will be your life line.

a) Make sure your passport is not about to expire- Obvious isn't it? Still you'd be surprised by the number of people who forget to do this. One time my friend and I were going to travel to China and what do you know? His passport had already expired. When did we find out about this? AT THE AIRPORT! Needless to say I wasn't a happy camper.

Some countries check if your passport is about to expire in 30-60 days. Make sure you do not fall in this category. If you do,make sure to apply for a passport as soon as possible prior to your departure.

b) Look into the visa for your country - Different places require different visas. Sometimes a visa can take months to get. You don't want your travel plans interrupted because of this. Call the local embassy for more information.

c) Scan and email to yourself all important documents - It's smart to make copies of your passport, insurance, dipolma, drivers license, etc. It's even smarter to scan them and then e-mail them to yourself. So even if you lose everything, as long as you can access the internet, you'll have access to all your relevant documents.

Now you may ask why you should scan your college diploma? Well, you never know if you'll fall in love with a country and want to live there for an extended period of time. Having a copy of your diploma saves you the hassle of having to get someone email it to you. This goes double for any and all documents that you may need on your travels.

3. Research where you are going- If you plan to do a lot of traveling, research the areas you will be traveling to. Make sure to have a good bit of information on where you are going. If they speak a different language and customs, try to learn as much about them prior to
departure.

Recently, a friend traveled to Venezuela without doing his research. Turns out the current president, Hugo Chavez had changed the official currency exchange rate, meaning that my friend got ripped off every time he drew money out of an ATM. If he had done his research, he would have known to take US dollars with him and to exchange it in the black market.

a) Making calls - Can you take the cell phone you already have and just buy a SIM card? Or do you have to buy a new phone? You may consider getting a phone that works in many countries then make calls using Wifi.

b) Electric outlets - Make sure you have the right plug for electrical outlets. Also, look into the voltages. I blew up a $200 electric tooth brush because I'm a moron. Turns out that Korea uses 220 volts instead of 110.

c) Do you need a return ticket? - some countries will not allow you to enter without a return ticket.Make sure to have a return ticket. Google is your friend for finding out this information.

d) Also, Lonely Planet travel guides will help you. I'm the type who likes to go to a new destination with no real plan and just play it by ear. Regardless, travel guides will save you alot of headaches by telling you where to stay and what to do.

4. Budget your trip- Budget your expenses and how much you will be spending on your trip. It is good to do a budget so you don't over extend yourself. Be careful when traveling with others. Getting into arguments about money leads to everyone being pissed. Be sure to discuss how you will share the expenses. Keep track of the money split and write it down.

5. Speak the language- Even a couple of phrases will help. Some places you'll find an abundant amount of English speakers, usually the younger people around universities. Other times, you'll be completely screwed.

6. Renew all your cards- If you plan to travel for an extended period of time, then try to renew all your credit cards, licenses, etc. Most credit card companies won't deliver your card internationally. So you'll have to get a friend to mail your new credit card to your new address (if you're there long enough) . That means you'll be dealing with other countries mail service. And believe me, this can be a real pain.

7. Travel Insurance- This one is going to be a personal choice. I've heard nightmare stories about travelers getting into accidents and having no way to pay for it. Personally, I've never traveled with insurance and have had no problems...so far...Make your own decision. There are lots of plans to choose from. Use Google and figure out what plan is best for you.

8. Be safe- It pays to be secure. Invest in money belts, mini locks, travelers checks, and exomesh.

a) Money belts - When I first arrived in Colombia, one of the locals told me not to take out my wallet. Smart idea. Another smart idea is to buy a money belt, then put your important documents and the majority of your money into it. If someone robs you at gun point then you can just hand them whatever is in your pockets. Hopefully they won't tell you to get buck nekkid.

b) Mini locks - Use these to lock your zippers shut. If you're traveling on a budget then chances are you'll be sharing rooms with other travelers. Most travelers you meet will be cool. Others you'll want to kick in the junk. And then there's the SOBs who will take your stuff. The mini lock is the first line of defense against this. This way you'll know no one rooted through your bags.

c) Exomesh - Your back pack ain't going nowhere with the exomesh deployed. Exomesh is basically a wire net that you wrap around your luggage and secure it to something that does move. If someone wants to steel my back pack then they gotta saw through the radiator first.

Pacsafe is a company that sells exomesh and secure travel gear in general.

d) Travelers checks - Travelers check can be your emergency back up if you should happen to lose all your money and credit cards. If you're staying in one place for some time, then keep your travelers checks stashed there. The beauty about travelers checks is even if you lose them, you can call up the bank that issued them and get them replaced.

Is a 2nd Passport a Wise Investment? - 5 Reasons to Consider

2nd passports bring a multitude of freedom that people might not realise. They are easily available but your will have to pay for one unless you have another nationality in your immediate family that you can use for this purpose.

Here is a list of the benefits that having a 2nd passport can afford you:

1) Ease of travel - depending where your original passport is from, having a 2nd passport can really open up your world. Certain passports are not popular in many countries, with one of the worst ones to have allowing travel to only 12 countries without needing a visa. The easiest passports to have are those from the US, Finland and Denmark which according to a study by Henley & Partners can take you to 130 countries without needing a visa. The passports available will allow you access to over 100 countries without a visa.

2) Passports belong to the government of the country where they were issued. They do not belong to the person they are issued to. That being the case, it is possible that the government can take their property back if you owe them tax or even if they just decide to, they can invalidate your passport. This would render you unable to travel. If you have 2 passports.. then you will still have a passport to your name.

3) Many people acquire another passport to enable them to run their financial affairs privately.

4) Under certain circumstances it may well save money to have another passport when importing goods such as cars or business equipment.

5) Having a passport can provide you privacy, freedom and you are not being 'controlled' by your government in terms of when you are allowed to travel and to where.

There are many reasons to take a 2nd passport, and these are just a few ideas.

Helmut by June allotment 3

Helmut Newton, born Helmut Neustädter (31 October 1920, Berlin, Germany 23 January 2004, West Hollywood, California, USA) was a German-Australian fashion photographer noted for his nude studies of women. Born Schoneberg, Berlin, to a German-Jewish button-factory owner and an American mother, Newton attended the Heinrich-von-Treitschke-Realgymnasium and the American School in Berlin. Interested in photography from the age of twelve when he purchased his first camera, he worked for the German photographer Yva (Else Neulander Simon) from 1936. The increasingly oppressive restrictions placed on Jews by the Nuremberg laws meant that his father lost control of the factory in which he manufactured buttons and buckles; he was even briefly interned in a concentration camp. 'Kristallnacht' on 9 November 1938 compelled the family to leave Germany. Newton's parents fled to Chile. He was issued with a passport just after turning 18, and left Germany on 5 December 1938. At Trieste he boarded the 'Conte Rosso' (along with about two hundred others escaping the Nazis) intending to journey to China. After arriving in Singapore he decided to remain as a reporter for the Straits Times and worked as a portrait photographer. He died at the age of 83 on 23 January 2004 in Los Angeles (car accident) Helmut Newton's 1952 portrait of Laurel Martyn, National Library of Australia Newton was interned by British authorities while in Singapore, and was sent to Australia on board the 'Queen Mary ...

How to Expedite Your Passport Renewal

There are three ways to expedite a passport renewal. The method you pick out will depend on how speedily you need to acquire your renewed passport and how much time you have to devote to the process. The details below will help guide you in making the decision on how best to expedite your passport renewal.

Apply for Expedited Service by Mail to the National Passport Processing Center

Ddownload and complete the application form DS-82 to renew a passport. Put it in an envelope with your current passport, two photos and payment. The application fee and expediting fee can be made with one payment. Provide proof of your name change if it is different from the name in your present passport. This can be done with a marriage certificate or court order.

Clearly and legibly write "EXPEDITE" on the envelope so that it can be speedily identified at the processing center. The National Passport Processing Center address can be found on the application for renewal. Within 3 to 4 weeks the application should be processed and your passport delivered to your. It may take longer, especially during peak travel periods.

Renew Your Passport at a Regional Passport Agency

Applying at a regional passport agency is an option if you cannot wait for your travel document to be returned by mail. The regional agencies attend travelers whose departure date is within 14 days and who do not need a travel visa. Those who need to obtain a visa can be attended at the regional agency up to 28 days before their departure date.

Presently, fifteen passport agencies operate in the United States. The agencies can be found in major cities throughout the U.S. including Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Houston, New Orleans, Miami, Norwalk (CO), Washington DC, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Chicago and Detroit. Each agency attends a particular area of the United States.

Pick the regional passport agency that services your state of residence to begin the passport renewal process. You can set up an appointment by callling toll-free at 1-877-487-2778. This number is for an automated appointment system. Sometimes, it can be pretty hard to get through. It may be necessary to make numerous tries. Just keep calling.

Take the completed form and accompanying documentation with you to the regional passport agency on the day of your appointment. You are asked not to get to the agency more than 15 minutes early or to be over 15 minutes late. Being more than fifteen minutes late could result in the cancellation of your appointment.

If your appointment is early in the day, you could receive your renewed passport that same afternoon. If you are not attended until later in the day, you might possibly have to wait until the following day to get your passport.

Get Your Passport Renewed Through a Travel Document Expediter

Travel document expediters have a special relationship with regional agencies that allow them to represent their clients who are unable to personally deliver their requests to the agency for processing. Allowing a passport expediter to take care of the expediting of your passport renewal is a wise choice when you are in a time crunch and have many other things to take care of before your trip.

Passport expediters specialize in obtaining passports quickly. You are ordinarily given several choices as to how quickly you want your passport expedited. Processing times are as follows.

Standard - 8 to 10 business days
Rush - 5 to 7 business days
Priority - 3 to 4 business days
Next Day - 2 business days
24 hours - 1 business day

Once you have decided on how speedily you want to acquire your passport, you need to complete an online form with personal information such as your name, address, phone number and email. Next, type in information about your trip including date of departure and destination. Confirm whether you have an itinerary or not.

You need to download the expediter's authorization form. The completed and signed form should be sent along with your passport renewal application and other documentation to the expediter by express mail.

Make Your Choice

Now you know the three ways to expedite your passport renewal. Send the passport application yourself. Get it expedited at a regional passport agency. Or allow a private expediting service to get the job done for you. The choice is yours. You get to decide. You make the decision. Just make sure you choose a way to get your passport renewal expedited that gets it done before your departure date.

Mafia Arabic (8 of 12)

The movie revolves around the problem of an important principle that has been missing from the minds and hearts of many Egyptian youth nowadays, that is loyalty to the motherland. The movie tackles this problem through the personality of Hussain Amin (Ahmed El Sakka) who has left the country and lost all his loyalty to it. His country has become nothing to him except a few letters typed on his passport. Amin who has developed a serious criminal personality, is recruited by his country to stop a big terrorist operation but of course his problems with loyalty stand as obstacles at first. Hussain is finally convinced of the importance of his loyalty to his country and that he should do anything to protect and defend it. Is Passport To Wealth a Legitimate Business Opportunity?

Passport To Wealth offers a large quantity of products that can be downloaded as soon as you join the program. The downloads include software and e-books, which are mostly focused on making money, growing your business, and a self improvement. The Passport To Wealth business opportunity is the ability to re-sell the package that you buy into yourself. When you recruit others to do the same thing that you do, you make $997 commissions for each member that you sign up. You also have master resale rights to the downloadable products that you can sell if you choose. If you sell the individual products, all of the commissions are yours to keep.

The Commission Breakdown

Passport To Wealth is a 2-up system. When you join the program you will first have to make two "qualifying sales" before you are able to earn commission on the new members that you recruit. The $997 from each of the first two sales you make is passed up to the person who recruited you. After your first two sales, you keep 100% of the sales that you make. This is considered to be a passive income system by the people with Passport To Wealth, because you aren't required to make the actual sales conversions to make the money from the sale. Assuming the people that you bring in make their first two sales, you make money.

Ease of Use

Passport To Wealth was designed to be a potentially automatic money making system. So long as you can drive traffic to your landing pages, the rest of the sales work can be done for you. If you are willing to share a portion of your commission, then you can have a sales team do all the calling, qualifying and closing of prospects for you.

Mentoring

When you join the company, your sponsor will have plenty of reason to help you make your first two sales, because that money goes straight into their bank account. They will likely teach you whatever methods that have been effective for them. However if you don't master how to correctly market the program in the time while you make those first two sales, those could potentially be your only two sales, and your sponsor doesn't have any incentive to help you beyond that.

Test It Out

Passport To Wealth gives people the chance to take a trial run and see what all they have to offer. This is quite an advantage over many product re-sale home businesses, because you actually get a chance to see what you will be dealing with. Not having any surprises allows you to make a more informed decision about joining.

Causes for Concern

Though Passport To Wealth is a potentially lucrative business opportunity, they lack in a couple areas that could end up being your make or break for success. If you don't have a marketing background, after your first two sales you could find yourself floundering with no support. Though some teams will help you regardless of the fact that they stand to gain nothing, most will be less concerned with your success and more concerned with their own. There is no incentive for them to train and mentor you on how to correctly market your business opportunity. While the 2-up commissions make for extra income beyond what you sell directly, you constantly need to be making sales to make a decent income.

Hot Chip - iNterview

As you can see, this iNterview was done in late December 2009 up on the 12th floor of Berlins famous Weekend club. Theres the big Ferris wheel of the infamous Christmas market at Alexanderplatz in the background a street market held during the four weeks of Advent prior to Christmas and sometimes also referred to as a Christkindlmarkt or Weihnachtsmarkt. But don't worry; Alex Taylor and Owen Clarke didnt talk to us about Christmas. Some of the topics discussed here include what they think of the term electropop, their ideas behind the new LP, tour habits, kick drums, passport checks, DIY, DJing in Hong Kong, Ghandi, James Brown and... what their favourite toast is. Or rather, how they interpreted that particular question. Have a look for yourself and watch the lovely Helen Feng from China ask this round of questions right from downtown Beijing. Didn't we tell you that one of the big advantages of our nifty little format is that it doesn't matter where the interviewer is or where the questions are recorded? This is a great example of our concepts potential. And hey, in addition to the new Hot Chip record, be sure to check out Helen's radio show on Hit FM in China, as well as her bands Pet Conspiracy (electroclash) and Ziyo (rock) while youre at it. So sit back and relax, launch the embedded player of your choice (either on YouTube or head on over to Vimeo), turn HD on and pour yourself a Jägermeister (thanks for the support guys!) to enjoy this very special iNterview.
